Luke 2:8-14
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

One might easily have overlooked this quiet night in Bethlehem, an eternity altering moment wrapped in humble packaging. The Christmas story reminds us, that in even the most mundane moments God is working a miracle. Jesus, the messiah, Emmanuel — God with us, a promise fulfilled in the form of a baby. The birth of Jesus has always been a radical reminder, that in the midst of the wilderness, God fulfills his promise. For many, this season can be a time of pain. A reminder of what is missing. Maybe you are dealing with loss, a broken relationship, or a personal disappointment. Wherever you may find yourself today, we have this hope — when we couldn’t get to God, he came to us. For this good news, we have a reason to celebrate!
The birth of Jesus allows us to be born again
We celebrate Christmas because Jesus came to love us and to show us the way of love. Truth is, God loves us so much, he was willing to give Jesus for us. So don’t ever doubt if you’re worth it. It even gets better; as we’re loved by Jesus, we grow and learn to love Him and others in return.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 KJV
We celebrate Christmas because Jesus, the promised messiah came to fulfill what we never could. Before Jesus’ sacrifice we were obligated to measure up to God’s perfect standard of living. Now, even on our worst days, God still sees our righteousness through the lense of the Cross.
“This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased” Matthew 3:17
Jesus is the ultimate gift God could have ever given us. He brought us infinite love, made us whole and finally, saved us from a sinful life and eternal death. He is the main reason why we celebrate today and can keep on celebrating everyday of our lives.
