A New Year brings excitement for a fresh start to change our habits and accomplish our goals. Our intentions are typically to grow and make progress in our life. However, Jesus calls us to focus on loving God first and loving others as ourselves. Both are equally important. In order to love others well, we must love ourselves well by taking care of our soul. As we learn to steward the life God has given us, we become healthy physically, mentally, and spiritually. As a result, we grow and make progress in our life.
Through our heart, mind, body and relationships we can develop our spirit to live happy, healthy and holy.
Soul care is not selfishness, it’s stewardship
The heart is the core of our being and the mind holds our thoughts and feelings. Jesus wants to replace our heart of stone to a heart of flesh, transforming us by renewing our minds. As we follow Jesus, we should challenge ourselves to have healthier thoughts, instead of following what culture says.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
We function as living beings and occupy physical space. As we interact with the world around us we form relationships with things, people, and even our own bodies. We can choose to subject our bodies to healthy habits or harmful addictions. The same can apply to our relationships. God’s will is not only for us to treat our bodies as his Holy temple, but for us to steward healthy relationships which exemplify the love of Christ.
Jesus commands us to love God with our minds, heart, soul, and all of our strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Although we may be eager to help others, it is important for all of us to understand spiritual formation and practice soul care first. To live healthy, happy, and holy we need our hearts renewed, mind transformed, body retrained, relationships submitted and souls saved.
Our spiritual formation can only be accomplished through becoming more like Christ. Start your year strong by checking out the resources to live happy, healthy, holy on www.vouschurch.com/happy
