Luke 10:27
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

We are not a body that has a soul; rather, we are a soul that has a body. Keeping God in His rightful position as Lord of our heart prunes the condition of our soul. Meanwhile, engaging in sin and straying from God’s word, fractures and shatters our soul. We steward our soul and nurture our heart by finding our true self in Christ. God’s word calls us to self-denial, not self-rejection. Self-denial means stepping away from relationship with the self as primary, and relationship with the Lord at the center of our being.
Soul care is not selfishness, it’s stewardship
The core of our soul is the heart, which encompasses our will and our spirit. In today’s culture, we are often advised to “follow our heart,” however we cannot trust a heart that is not submitted to God’s will. When our heart is outside of His guidance, we are sure to be a lost soul. When our soul lacks direction, it is impossible to know its destination.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
-Jeremiah 17:9
We find our true selves when we follow Jesus and submit to the will of God. It requires a daily walk with Jesus through prayer and learning from him in scripture. By practicing what Jesus did, our identity is found in becoming more like Christ.
Being lost can lead us to make bad decisions in our lives, and can take us down a destructive path. We can be lost, but God always finds us, no matter what we have done. Your S.O.S is being seen by heaven, and God is always ready to restore and transform you from the inside out. By remembering that Jesus came to this world to redeem our sins and reconcile our souls, we can enjoy our relationship with God living happy, healthy, and holy.
