Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”

To see the burst of sunrise. To experience the depth of moonlight. To witness the gravity of roaring oceans. We take these daily marvels for granted and can easily forget that the God who created it all is the God who cares for us. Maybe that’s because it takes a little faith to keep our perspectives straight. Faith is not simply about what we do, but about who we believe. In Jesus, even granular faith moves mountains. At times, stepping out into the unknown and acting upon belief over feelings can be hard to put into practice. Faith requires strength to remain patient, an understanding for the slow growth, gratitude for the mundane, and a value for the small things. As we follow God patiently, we can trust he will work suddenly. When we remember that the one who makes the sun rise, the moon shine, and the waters stay in their place is also the one who sustains us, then we know that we don’t have to have huge faith to see great miracles.
God can do something big with something very small.
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” —Matthew 17:20
When Jesus says “little faith,” he is not talking about a literal size, he’s using an expression. He is conveying that even if the state of our faith is practically nonexistent, he can still use the small to do the great.
In our lives dirt can represent difficulties in our lives, but these dirt moments have a purpose. Let the dirt do the work of teaching, refining, and helping you grow stronger. Surrender to God what you’re going through and be ready for him to do the unimaginable.
Faith endures because it is placed in the immovable and unchanging God who loves us so much, that he gave his one and only son, Jesus, for our sins. We all want to run to where the blessings flow, but often we don't realize blessings are all around us and within us all the time. Rejoice in the seasons of harvest produced by the seeds of faith sown. A kingdom mindset says, “I’m not simply asking God to bless me, I want to bless others. I want my harvest to be large, not only for my family to eat, but so that others will also be fed.” Through our investment of time spent with Jesus and his causes, we harvest seasons of blessings and discover freedom even when we’re being pressed and refined. Always remember, what matters most, is not the size of our faith, but the strength of the God in whom we place it.
Think of a small step you can take in the direction of what may seem like a gigantic victory. Write it down and believe that your little steps will become enormous miracles.
