Romans 12:10-12
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality

Honor is defined by “esteem, value, or great respect.” When we honor someone we value them highly and lift them up with our words and actions. We do so even when it’s not the most popular thing to do, when we don’t agree with someone else’s point of view, or even when the other person doesn’t deserve it. But we do it anyway because we are called to be people who give honor, honor to God and to others through our way of living. It’s not just about what we are doing, but about who we are. We don’t behave according to the world's patterns, we obey God’s principles, changing culture by living a life of honor.
Honor is the greatest common factor in a life of purpose
God created us to live a life of honor. We are called to honor up, down, and all around — up to those who are in authority above us, down to those we lead, and all around to the people in our lives. God makes no exceptions for who we get to honor, but, as we trust him more and more, He shows his love through his unending protection and provision.
The day of “Pentecost” commemorates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to early believers after Jesus ascended to heaven. Through Pentecost, God honored and affirmed Jesus’ sacrifice by pouring out his spirit. When we honor God’s gift of salvation and live in obedience to Jesus, we allow God’s presence and promises to define our lives.
Honor is a lost factor in our world but even though we disagree with others doesn’t mean we need to dishonor them. In fact, as a church we believe Honor is our calling and we begin by Honoring God. That is why we need to check our honor tank and ask ourselves if we are carrying a heart that Honors God, others and ourselves. In living a life of honor we find not only God’s protection, His promises and provision, but also His presence and power.
Meditate and reflect on how to start honoring everyone by remembering these principles.
1. Let Sorrow filter through your anger
2. Let Prayer drown out sarcasm
3. Let Clear truth overrule mockery
Remember you show honor because of who you are in Christ and because you are honoring God through obedience.
