Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Excellence is the spirit of God. Everything that He does is perfect and unique. Our spirit of excellence should be the same as His as we live a life reflective of Christ. Greatness isn’t easy, it requires sacrifice and practice but leads us to a full life with Jesus. Jesus lived a sinless life and He is the standard of our excellence. We’re part of His body, and each of us have our role to play. Just as a world-class orchestra has various instruments to create a harmonious sound, each of us contributes our part in amplifying the story of Jesus. Being excellent is a commitment to His path. Be patient, it’s always too soon to quit what God called us to do. There’s more with Jesus.

The path to excellence requires daily intention and practice. This is a challenge for many of us, but the fruit is beyond rewarding. As we think about excellent and praiseworthy things, we are promised the peace of God. Choose today to be excellent in your thoughts and actions in all areas of your life and see how God blesses you with peace.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
As we progress through this journey of faith, we learn that the way of excellence holds progress. As we represent the message of Jesus, we understand that God has not called us to live a life of instant gratification or perfection, but of progress. As we excel in our faith, speech, and knowledge we do so knowing that God has called us to exemplify a spirit of excellence. Enduring through the process, all for the glory and honor of our God, representing the greatest story of all time.
Having a spirit of excellence not only holds peace and progress in our lives, but it also holds purpose. We are all called to play our part as the body of Christ in the most excellent way. In order to do that, Paul reminds us in his letters to the Corinthians, that love is indispensable. We can have all the excellence in the world, but it means nothing if we don’t have love; and we find the best example and source of it through the life of Jesus. Love is the most excellent way.
As we reflect on our individual journeys and where we have struggled or been stagnant from not walking in excellence, know you’re not alone. Choose an area of your life that you want to improve on and find an accountability partner or group so we can support each other as we work on walking in excellence everyday.

This back-to-school season, we have the opportunity to show up for our city in a meaningful way. On Saturday, August 2, we’re hosting a Back to School Bash at the Samuel K. Johnson Youth Center, located inside Charles Hadley Park. It’s a chance to serve local families by distributing backpacks filled with school supplies and making sure every student feels seen, supported, and ready to start the year with confidence.
Donate - Fill backpacks for families in need for the school year. You can purchase supplies locally and bring to a VOUS Location or donate online.
Serve - Help host our annual Back To School Bash for families in our community — distribute backpacks, check-in guests, and serve our city during a morning of fun and games.
