Joshua 2:15-21 ESV
Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was built into the city wall, so that she lived in the wall. And she said to them, “Go into the hills, or the pursuers will encounter you, and hide there three days until the pursuers have returned. Then afterward you may go your way.” The men said to her, “We will be guiltless with respect to this oath of yours that you have made us swear. Behold, when we come into the land, you shall tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you shall gather into your house your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household. Then if anyone goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we shall be guiltless. But if a hand is laid on anyone who is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head. But if you tell this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless with respect to your oath that you have made us swear.” And she said, “According to your words, so be it.” Then she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

When you’re in a season of waiting, it can feel like you’re walking blindly into the future or wandering without direction. But when you have vision for the eternal, you don’t mind waiting and hope pulls you into the future God has for you.
“Where there’s no vision, there’s no hope “ ~ George Washington Carver
In Hebrew, the word for hope and rope is the same word: Tikveh. Similarly, there are multiple examples throughout the bible where rope was connected to hope. Rehab’s obedience in throwing down a rope led to her protection. Joseph’s rescue with a rope from the pit he was left to die in led to his freedom. And Samson’s capture by the Philistines’ rope led to the discovery of his strength. As long as we hold on to the rope that is hope, God will pull us toward the vision and promises He has purposed for us.
Sometimes we can talk ourselves right out of what God has for us. We have to silence our thoughts so we don’t talk ourselves out of miracles. Even when what you are thinking or saying is true about your circumstance, remember that the enemy will twist the truth to confuse you. Ultimately, God will prevail over any walls in front of you, so keep marching forward in faith.
Hope is not just meant for us as individuals. Like a rope, it is meant to be extended so that others may take hold of it and be pulled into God’s vision for their lives. Hope redirects the future for ourselves and those that come after us. By holding fast to hope, we show the future generations the enduring, eternal strength of God’s direction.
Having hope for the future means sowing into the house today. Prayerfully consider contributing to the Bricklayers offering, and ask God to bless your giving so that the church can have all it needs to fulfill our vision.
