Last Crew's Call to Action

God calls for us to forgive while maintaining boundaries necessary to steward and nurture our souls. This week, lean in to the wisdom of Solomon and study the book of Proverbs to help you develop tools for cultivating Godly relationships while asking God for the courage to forgive. Scripture

Mark 1:40-42

And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, ‘If you will, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, ‘I will; be clean.’ And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.

Main Idea

We often forget just how near God is to us through Jesus—how He sits with us in our pain, not apart from it. In our most broken moments, He doesn’t stay distant. Instead, He draws close, sometimes through the presence of another person willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with us. It’s there, in proximity, that His love, compassion, power, and mercy become deeply personal. Even when we feel covered in shame or guilt, He moves toward us and carries the residue of our pain as His own.

1. Jesus Draws Near to Us

God is not an existential construct. He is a living, breathing God who desires closeness and relationship. He became the Word made flesh through Jesus Christ—present, active, and full of mercy. Shame is often the buffer we use to keep Jesus at a distance. But the truth is, it is not about how persistent we are, how well we perform, or how often we attend church. It is about proximity. The closer we come to Jesus, the more undone we become by His kindness.

Don’t let shame be the thing that distances you from God
God’s accessibility is an invitation to intimacy, not performance
Embrace the truth that we are God’s children, fully known and fully loved

You don’t know Jesus if you can’t lean into His embrace.

Have you ever felt unworthy of love? How did you accept the love of Jesus?

2. Jesus Heals Through Proximity

In the time of Jesus, lepers were social outcasts—excluded physically, spiritually, and emotionally. But when the leper in Mark 1 approached Jesus, He didn’t heal from a distance. Jesus touched him first, while he was still unclean. He chose closeness over comfort, presence over protocol.

In a fast-paced, temptation-filled city, it’s easy to feel too far gone. But Jesus is always willing to come near. He reaches into the mess and says, “I am willing. Be clean.” He still meets us in our hidden pain. His love is personal. His compassion is close. His healing is always possible.

We are never too far gone for God’s compassion
God’s love is personal, active, and equal for all
Healing often begins with honesty and surrender

Jesus is simultaneously perfectly transcendent, perfectly holy, and perfectly accessible.

Have you ever felt too far from God—like you were too broken or too lost to come back? How did that affect your relationship with Him?

Summary

Jesus didn’t wait for the leper to clean himself up. He came close, touched what others avoided, and loved without conditions. This moment wasn’t just a miracle of healing; it was a revelation of God’s heart. The gospel tells us of a Holy God who became human, not to stand far off, but to step into our condition, to carry our shame, and to heal our hearts with His nearness. In every season, Jesus still chooses presence over performance. He still moves toward the broken, not away. If we let Him, He will meet us right where we are, not with judgment, but with healing. His holiness doesn't exclude us; it embraces us.

Call To Action

This week, don’t clean up before coming close. Come close and let Jesus do the healing. Proximity leads to transformation. Bring Him the real, raw, honest you.

  • Reflect: Are there places in your life where shame or striving has kept you from intimacy with Jesus?
  • Respond: This week, practice vulnerability with Jesus. Bring Him the messy, hidden parts of your life in prayer.
  • Reframe: Remember, holiness isn’t earned. It’s encountered. It’s not about how clean you are but how close you’re willing to come.

Prayer Prompts

As you reflect on Sunday’s message, here are some guided prayers and scriptures you can use over the next week. If you're looking for ways to grow deeper in this specific area, let these words cover, challenge, and encourage you along the way.

Prayer for Compassion Like Christ’s

Lord, give me eyes to see those who feel invisible, forgotten or unworthy. Let my life reflect the nearness of Your love.

“Be kind to one and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32

Prayer for Identity Rooted in Christ

Jesus, remind me that I am not my mistakes, my past, or my shame. I am Yours. Let my identity be shaped by Your truth, not my fear.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that should be called children of God; and so we are.” – 1 John 3:1

Prayer for Courage to be Loved

Jesus, sometimes it’s easier to serve You than to sit with You. Teach me to receive Your love without earning it. Quiet the voice of shame and awaken my heart to trust again.

“We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19

Prayer for Stillness in God’s Presence

God, I often try to prove myself or perform for Your approval. But You simply want me to be with You. Help me slow down, be still, and remember that You are enough, and so am I, in You.

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” – Isaiah 30:15

Scripture

Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Main Idea

Life often doesn't meet our expectations, leading to frustration and disappointment. We may hope for one outcome, only to be met with something entirely different, creating a gap between what we expected and what we experienced. This gap can lead us to question God, our faith, and our hope. But through stories like that of Lazarus and Job, we learn that God isn’t in the business of just meeting expectations, He’s in the business of exceeding them.

God’s power to perform exceeds our ability to ask

1. Hope and Expectation

Faith grows through hope and trusting God’s timing. Positive expectations can fuel faith, while unmet expectations can lead to disappointment. Often, we expect something specific from God but find ourselves limiting Him to only a particular outcome. When we don’t see Him come through just as we expected, we can find ourselves frustrated and disappointed — where was God? The truth is, God is always at work. We may not always see Him moving, or understand His plan, but He has something greater in mind.

Disappointment can tempt us to give up on expectations, but it’s an opportunity to strengthen our faith
God’s plans always exceed our expectations
Don't allow your expectations of what God was “supposed” to do get in the way of what He wants to do

If God always met your expectations, how could He ever exceed them?

What areas of your life are you waiting for God to show up? How can you operate from faith in the present as you hope for the future?

2. Endurance and Enjoyment

Job’s story is a powerful example of enduring pain and disappointment without losing faith. Even in his suffering, Job declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” Despite the immense loss, he continued to trust God, showing us that our hope can remain, even in the midst of struggle. Endurance is the ability to trust that God is working, even when we can’t see it.

Endurance strengthens our faith through trials
God hasn’t called us to merely endure life, He’s called us to enjoy it
Enjoying life is appreciating the little, it’s not a pain-free life, but a grateful one

We can say: “God, I don’t understand everything but I trust you in everything”

How has a difficult season strengthened your appreciation for God’s blessings?

Summary

Possibly the greatest source of frustration in life is unmet expectations. The difference between what we expected versus what we experienced often leads us to stop expecting. But there’s an invitation of faith amidst the frustration. Don’t lower your expectations; lift your faith. Give God something to exceed. God can do it, the question is: can you believe it?

Call To Action

Identify areas where you may be limiting God by expecting a specific outcome. Practice finding gratitude by celebrating the little things.
