As I drive up to the grassy parking lot behind Jose de Diego Middle School, a handful of servant leaders donning bright orange vests wave at me, directing me to a parking space halfway down the field.
I step out of my car, toddler in tow. I’m greeted by two more people, holding welcoming signs and smiling.I round the corner and the courtyard comes into view. The resource corner, staffed by a handful of servant leaders, is outfitted with the latest VOUS merch for sale.I head over to VOUS Kids and drop off my son. He's two, so he gets dropped off in the toddlers area. For younger babies, there’s a nursery, and there’s a special section for kids ages 5-11 too.
I leave the kids area and walk toward the church doors. To my right, the connect corner is buzzing. The cafeteria door swings open and shut as servant leaders head to their respective pre-service huddles.I join a couple dozen others hanging around outside the auditorium doors, waiting for them to open 15 minutes before the 11 a.m. service.VOUS Church celebrated an important milestone this week -- we’ve officially been around for 100 Sundays. With around 400 servant leaders and five services, it’s hard to imagine that we’re only two years old.We reached out to some of the faithful servant leaders of VOUS Church who have been there since the beginning, and here is what they had to say.
I can honestly remember sitting in Pastors Rich & DawnCheré’s apartment planning for our first interest meeting back in October 2014 and to think that we are at not 1 or 2 but 5 services now is mind blowing.Honestly, to see where VOUS Church is right now is a testament to God’s faithfulness and such a humbling reminder that I am just a small piece to such a huge picture. I can’t wait to see where we are 100 Sundays from now. I know it’s just going to get better and bigger each day! I love VOUS so much and couldn’t see myself anywhere else.-- Jamila Pereira
I don’t think any of us knew what to fully expect in the beginning. We all expected it to grow but I don’t think we expected to see what we’re seeing right now this soon!We knew that VOUS Church had the makings of something special, but God has surpassed all our expectations. We always said from the beginning that we were gonna love people, regardless of who they were or where they came from.I remember wondering where we would find people to make a Sunday happen… where would we get enough servant leaders. But through this process God has always shown his faithfulness. He’s always provided!I think for us, looking back it is hard to believe that VOUS Church at one point fit in P. Rich and DC’s living room… now we can barely contain 5 services! Our first week of crew we had 37 people in 4 crews. We just finished up our last week of crew with 57 crews and over 900 people. If I’ve learned anything it’s that as you plant yourself and as you’re faithful, God will remain faithful. It hasn’t always been easy but it’s definitely been worth it.– Kyle GrahamAs Pastor DawnCheré preached in her message, The Grateful Road, looking back is the best way to appreciate how far God has brought us.Here’s to another 100 Sundays!Do you want to be a part of what God is doing at VOUS Church?
