[lead dropcap="yes"]The hustle and bustle of our everyday lives feed a narrative that we only need to get through each day. But we might be surprised how vision influences our choices. We see this with fashion editors and movie producers, who spend several months preparing previews of collections, trends, and productions. Each scenario creates anticipation for its audience of a vision for the future.[/lead]For the past few weeks we’ve been in a collection of talks on The Church. We learned about who we are and what we’ve been called to do individually and collectively. This weekend Pastor Rich encouraged us to look to our future, focused on where God has destined us all to be in a message titled A Big Vision.
A BIg Vision
Vision is a way to preview the greatness of our future and a glimpse into our destiny. God speaks to us through images as a way to confirm that he has the best prepared for our lives. These previews give a vision that fuels our passion in the midst of the pain - this helps us stay committed to the journey. Though the journey is not without obstacles and roadblocks, God offers his vision for us to stay on the course and not grow weary.
"A man without a vision is a man without a future. A man without a future will always return to his past."P.K. Bernard
In Luke 4, Jesus stood up in the temple and read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, in which the prophet shared a vision of a Savior that would heal the brokenhearted and set the oppressed free. But many times, we can’t seem to grasp such a big vision for our own lives because we’re looking through the wrong lens. It’s time we ask ourselves: What lens are we looking through? Are we looking through a contaminated filter? One plagued by bitterness, anger or betrayal? It can all change if we decide to put on a new pair of glasses and look through a different filter -the Jesus filter, a visionary lens that propels us to looking forward and trust the landing of our next destination.
Why Having a vision matters:
1. VISION GIVES PAIN A PURPOSE
With all of the modern-day technology, we are used to instant gratification. Instant everything. But vision gives purpose to the process. A process that at times involves pain. Without the vision, the pain becomes unbearable and pointless. Having a vision makes the pain bearable knowing that, in due time, the vision will become a reality.
2. VISION MAKES SOWING SIMPLE
Like a farmer with his seed, so vision gives us the ability to sow seeds even when we can’t see the harvest. It helps us practice patience and faith in God’s promise. Through the vision we recognize that our purpose comes to life by planting seeds of our money, time and talents into God’s kingdom. As we relinquish control of our seeds, we allow the overflow of God’s richest blessing to pour into our lives.
"When we sow, it may leave our hand, but it doesn't leave our life"Rich wilkerson Jr.
Allow God to give you a preview of the future He has in store for you. Open up and see He has a vision for your life that surpasses your every dream and ambition. Give of what He’s given you and you’ll see it come back to you tenfold.
