A Bold Mission

[lead dropcap="yes"]We’ve learned about who we are as the church of Christ: a bride, a body, a building. Now the question is: As the church of Christ, what have we been called to do? What is our mission? It’s a mission for all, from the youngest to the eldest, and as a family we were witness to some of our youngest being included in this mission as parents brought their children to be dedicated to God.[/lead]Families filed on stage with their children, ready to partake in the church’s mission in a very personal level. We were honored to join parents and pray blessings over the children’s lives, committing to be part of their spiritual formation and their journey with God. This gave us a taste of the message shared by Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr, A Bold Mission. What we do with our lives will never have as much meaning if we don’t live a life for him. The question then is: are our individual missions more important than God’s great commission? The mission of God is accomplished only if we become instruments used for his glory.

A Bold Mission

In Matthew 28:16-20, in the passage known as the great commission, Jesus provides instructions to the eleven disciples who followed him to Galilee.

It is here that we as the church are able to find specific commands on what to do and how to intentionally fulfill our mission:

1. Go

We are first called to go and take a step of faith. Often times, this involves a risk as you walk towards an impossibility. However, this act of obedience activates God to work on your behalf and he releases his promises over your life. Whether it is a mission trip, the workplace, or school…if you go, he will show.

2. Make

The purpose of going is to make disciples. Are people aware that you love Jesus? Can they tangibly follow Jesus by watching you? As we watch and replicate Jesus, the world around us can follow and reflect the same.

3. Teach

As you make disciples, walking alongside and teaching them scripture is crucial for their growth. The church is called to minister to the world. We fulfill this by seeking God’s word for guidance and direction. We are mandated to follow this great commission. What are some ways you can be bold on your mission today? What steps can you take towards impacting those around you? Take your opportunity to reflect the light of Jesus. He has given us all authority in his name and he will continue to be with us as we fulfill his mission. Do not fear, be bold, knowing that God’s strength and presence will empower you.
