[lead dropcap="yes"]At our first ever Team CONF, Pastor Carl Lentz spoke life into the hearts of our servant leaders, the people who make up our teams and carry the culture of VOUS Church.[/lead]It was our first Team Conference and our guest of honor, Uncle Carl as he calls himself, was set to close a day full of memorable moments, encouraging words from our pastors, and numerable surprises. A day that taught us about our culture and invited us to carry it everywhere we go, that equipped us to be leaders in every sphere of our lives, and brought us together could not close out any other way than with a word that challenged us to believe at a greater scale, such as this.
It's Time to Make the Switch
In a sermon titled "It's Time To Make The Switch/Why My Wife And I Give,"
Pastor Carl spoke directly to the heart of our church about the reasons why we give. It's so easy to trust Jesus in some areas of our lives, but when we fully trust Jesus in all areas, then we learn to be generous with our time and resources.
Pastor Carl shared four reasons why we should live a life of giving
1. It is God’s command.
God doesn't ask us to give because he needs what we have, He asks us to give to create supernatural connections in our lives. Giving our time and even our money helps us to develop passion, create relationship, and learn to have a heart for the House.
2. We are never going to be satisfied, so why not give it away early?
If we wait until we have enough to give, we miss the whole point because there will never be enough. Our possessions will not stay with us when we leave this world. Giving is a discipline; if you don't give when you have little, you won't give when you have a lot. When we learn that we will never be satisfied by what we have, it's easy to give.3. We want our church to have more so it can do more. The more resource the Church has, the more the Church can do. We want to be a part of a church that has an abundance of resources to give to the city. God's dream for the Church is for it to be a place where we can reach the broken, feed the hungry, and shelter the homeless. We give in order to serve our community.
4. We want to create space in our lives for more.
There will always be more vision than resources. The promise of Christianity is that if you give you will receive; not just more money, but a more abundant life and a stronger relationship with Jesus. God gives to us so that we can give to others. If He can get it through you, He'll get it to youMany people place their faith in "things," but when you trust Jesus with your giving, you can trust that He will always take care of you. We don't trust the system, we trust the source, and that gives us freedom to give.Who provides for you? Do you believe what you have is due to your job and finances, or to your God? Are you waiting to have enough to be comfortable in order to give? Or is your giving a testament of your faith that your giving makes way for your provision? Decide today that you're going to make the switch in your life today to give. Give believing that your seed makes a way for your needs, your dreams, your desires, and that it is in your giving, more than your getting, that you find the blessings you long for.
