[lead dropcap="yes"]We can know all about God, and we can reflect on what he's done for us. While that's good, God wants us to go deeper. He wants to know us, and He wants us to know him. He wants to have a deep, satisfying relationship with us through Jesus Christ.[/lead]Leading up to Easter Sunday, Pastor Rich launched a series of talks about who Jesus is, and how we can go deeper in our relationships with Him. In John 6, we find Jesus feeding thousands of people with just a couple of fish and a few loaves of bread. When Jesus leaves, the crowd goes looking for him. They didn't seek him for relationship, though, they were looking to find their physical needs met. They were hungry.
When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval. John 6:25-27
Even though they were looking to have a physical need fulfilled, Jesus always addresses the spiritual need first. We tend to focus on the how - how will it work? But the question isn’t how – it’s where.Where do you find your provision? Are you trying to do it all yourself, or are you trusting God’s plans to give you hope and a future?God doesn't work in the obvious, he moves in the subtle. He's waiting on us to trust him and give him something to work with. Even if you think you don’t have anything to give, surrender your lack back to God. He is a multiplier. He is the great I AM.
So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.John 6:30-33
Today, Jesus is our daily spiritual food. Just as we need to eat every day, we need him every day. We're all hungry, and we all look for something to fill the void in us. Only Jesus can satisfy every one of our needs.Questions to reflect on this week:1. Where do you find your provision?2. Do you seek him daily?
