It’s Christmas time and everywhere we look we are reminded of the sweet things that make this time of the year truly wonderful. There are bright and colorful lights strung from homes; store-fronts decorated with all things merry and bright; and suddenly - everything, everywhere becomes peppermint flavored. Tis’ the season, right?Another seasonal emblem we see a lot of this time of the year is the symbol of the dove - a biblical symbol for peace and hence, a perfect representation to mark ‘all things Christmas’ and the birth of our Savior. We see them as ornaments we gently hang on our Christmas trees or even in cards we share with our family and loved ones. It’s a beautiful time of the year to remember and dwell on the peace Jesus offers us. Peace in our hearts as we’re filled with His love and grace. Peace over any guilt or mistakes we made in our past, as we receive forgiveness. Peace in our minds as we start to learn to trust Him and his plan for our lives. And even peace over our finances and any monetary insecurity we may have. This last one may sound odd or even new to you: Why does God care if I have peace over my finances? The reason is because God cares deeply about you and everything that is of concern to you. And that means giving you peace that your finances are being effectively used, peace over meeting debts, peace for your future when you retire, peace knowing that you have a safety cushion should the need arise. And peace to be able to ‘afford’ to share generously, whenever you please with those in need. God’s will is that you be good stewards of your money and aren’t losing sleep at night fretting over your financial situation. At VOUS Church, we are committed to doing everything we can to offer the best tools towards equipping you to be everything that God wants you to be. In January, we are offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) - a nine-week course focused on teaching you how to acquire just that: Financial Peace.
IS FPU FOR ME?
What if you could always buy what you need, interest-free?What if you could actually keep a percentage of your paycheck? What if you could be debt-free with an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses saved, all while investing for retirement and planning for your family’s future?God’s desire for you is that you be filled with wisdom and knowledge to know how to manage your money, and yes, even make it grow.
“We took Financial Peace when we got engaged, eight years ago, and it radically changed the way we handled money,” says Liz Castro, who took the course with her husband, Ray and will be leading the course next SZN.“We cash flowed our NYC wedding, a 10K apartment renovation, a surprise $15K IRS bill, our one year anniversary, and we paid off $25K of school debt. We are now debt free and get to save as much as we want and be as generous as we feel led. We are so grateful!"
From Reckless to Responsible
While it’s true that some people are better at saving, investing and paying off debt, no person is exempt from learning the skill of managing money and having financial peace. Shawn and Paola Soares are two fellow VOUS family members who took full advantage of FPU teachings and are still applying what they learned towards a better future.“As young professionals, we were reckless with our finances and had no idea what a budget was, says Shawn. “FPU completely changed our perspective on how to handle money. It helped us create a plan to eliminate debt and plan for our future.” His wife Paola says, “We now have a greater vision and purpose for our finances and we are on track towards financial freedom.”
Super Stewardship
There are few things in life that we are able to control fully, but financial management is one of them. We hold the power to change our financial circumstances, prepare for our family’s future and make better investments.“Super heroes have super strength. They are fast and make a difference. In the real world, money is viewed as a super power,” say Jean and Alena Costume, fellow FPU grads. “Not everyone can tame it, but we believe that everyone can learn how to steward money properly. In our journey, we've learned the effectiveness of money and the super powerful blessing of it.”
Since taking FPU courses, the Costumes have paid off over $35K of debt in three and a half years.Whether you’re struggling to make ends meet, or simply want to learn to make better choices over telling your money where to go, FPU can help. You are not alone.
